Our Learning

Art

Art is taught throughout the whole school to all pupils. We develop opportunities for all children to learn to be artists through a variety of different mediums.  We aim to inspire all children to create their own models, paintings and drawings using their imagination by observing the methods of other artists and by developing their own unique style.  The children are encouraged to be creative learners and build on their skills and art techniques year on year through the different topics and artist’s studied.

The children will have the opportunity to use a wide range of resources: hard and soft pencils, pencil and wax coloured crayons, wet and dry paper, inks, paints, colour mixing, charcoal, oil pastels, watercolours, collage using different textures, mod rock, clay and tie-dye. Over time, pupils learn to appreciate which medium is most suited to the intentions of their artwork. Art is an important form of expression and at Rush Common we aim for children to become self-aware, empathetic and able to develop their own opinions on a variety of artists’ work.  We aim for all the children to be confident learners, to work independently and with perseverance to become the best artist that they can and develop a good understanding of what Art means.
